Real quick, anyone know of any sources online for parts like wheels etc in bulk? I'm good with buying up loads of crap and harvesting, but I was wondering...

This place seems to be the one stop shop of the internet. He's also got a series of youtube videos that detail the 'how to' of modifying.
If you are just trying to change colors, some people just dye them. Just search 'dying Hot Wheels' on the youtube's.

I used to paint mini-figs, so I may just take a hand painted approach. Dye or spray the base, then hand detail. Means I can actually do some fine detail work.
